TL;DR

Mathias spent eight years deep in SEO after starting out as a developer. When he discovered AirOps, he rediscovered his love for building, this time with AI-driven content workflows that became daily drivers for his clients.

Q: Introduce yourself! What do you do for work?

I'm the founder of Depends, an SEO/AEO agency where I mainly focus on search strategies and AI automations for content.

Q: What led you to Content Engineering?

I started out as a developer building websites, but quickly fell in love with SEO and spent the next eight years deep in search. Over the past year and a half, after discovering AirOps, I've rediscovered my passion for content, automation, and building scalable AI-driven workflows. It gave me more joy.

Q: When did you first learn about Content Engineering?

In May 2025, when I started researching content automation tools for a client. We came across AirOps, started listening to podcasts from the founders sharing their vision. I was hooked from the first moment.

Q: How do you define Content Engineering?

Not a way to pump out hundreds of pieces of content, but a way to scale and improve the entire process, from research to creating different types of content through smarter systems and automation.

Q: Tell us about your biggest win with Content Engineering so far.

I created three workflows that are now daily drivers at one of my clients. They couldn't work without them anymore.

Q: How did AirOps University change how you approach your work?

It completely changed the way I think about building workflows, drastically reducing the time from idea to execution. I also learned how to better leverage internal company data to significantly improve the quality of the final output.

Q: What are you most excited about in the future of marketing?

Agentic marketing, both how we use it as marketers and how it will impact the platforms we want to appear on.

Q: What advice would you give someone just getting started with Content Engineering?

Start small. It's easy to get overwhelmed and immediately think about building huge systems. Instead, focus on small content processes or specific use cases first, then expand over time. There are still only a handful of truly great Content Engineers today. Become one of them.
