What questions can your data answer? Use AI to find out

How to use artificial intelligence to determine which questions a data table can answer.

Published on Jan 17, 2024 by AirOps Team

Today’s companies generate and store vast amounts of data. Unfortunately, that data often goes unused, gathering virtual dust inside of data warehouses.

There are plenty of reasons for this, but here’s one major culprit: People simply don’t know what questions to ask.

When you’re looking at a seemingly endless list of columns and rows, it’s difficult to see the story behind the data. Now, you don’t have to scratch your head while trying to see the bigger picture.

Uncover more business value from your data using AI Data Sidekick

Data Sidekick is an AI-assisted data tool that takes the grunt work out of common data tasks.

It works by combining the power of artificial intelligence with context from your data warehouse (that’s how it’s able to generate such relevant questions).

To get a list of questions that a specific table can answer, first select your table and click Generate.

That’s it. In a few seconds you’ll have a list of relevant questions based on the data in your table.

In addition to discovering new questions you can ask about your data, you can also use Sidekick’s collection of AI-powered recipes to:

  • Convert natural language to SQL like magic 🪄
  • Explain, modify, and fix existing SQL queries 🔧
  • Auto document table schemas ✍️
  • Optimize queries to improve speed and trim your warehouse bill 💸

… and more. New recipes are always in the works, too.

The best part? Sidekick is completely free for individual users. You don’t even need a credit card to sign up.

Work with data 10x faster.

Magically draft, correct, and explain SQL. Instantly write Python scripts. Free for individuals and small teams.

Before Sidekick, how did you approach working with data?
I’m a content marketer and while I’m somewhat comfortable working with data, I’m definitely still learning.

One of the biggest problems I’ve come across is not knowing what I don’t know – in other words, sometimes I’m not even sure what questions the different tables inside of our data warehouse could answer.
How has Sidekick changed the way you work with data?
Sidekick is a-m-a-z-i-n-g for SQL novices like me (I’ve heard good things from veteran data people too, but I’m speaking from my experiences as a relative newcomer to the data world).

With the Question Suggester recipe, I can choose one of the many tables in our data warehouse to generate a bunch of relevant questions for that data. There’s always at least a question or three I wouldn’t have thought of on my own.

Once I have some question ideas, I can fire up the SQL Query Writer recipe to have Sidekick automatically write the queries, which I can then run. Working with SQL, and data in general, quite literally couldn't get easier.
