Tip 2: Don't use AI language
Why avoid AI language in prompts
If you want to write human-sounding content, avoid prompts full of AI language. It’s tempting to lean on AI to craft all your instructions, but you need to refine your prompts to sound more natural.
What AI language looks like
Here are the key markers of AI language:
- Too many words
Prompts with AI language often include so many extra words that they don’t help convey your point. - Lack of hierarchy
Tons of paragraphs and long lists make it hard for the model to know what’s important and what isn’t. - Ambiguous modifiers or nouns
Phrases like “actionable,” “insights,” “relevant details,” “systems,” “processes” often don’t mean much when you think about them. - Common AI formalities
Words such as “critical,” “crucial,” “comprehensive.” If you don’t want these in the output, don’t put them in your prompt.
A general rule
If your instructions are hard to read, make them more concise. Generally, if your instructions are easy to read, you’ll get better output. Assume that the more human your instructions, the more human the output will be.
